Help Needed - Food Drive Coordinators

LCS is in need of individuals who are willing to run food drives to help with the growing demand for food at our new Choice Pantry located at 2809 Baynard Blvd in Wilmington.

Food comes to us for the Choice Pantry at this time from two sources,The Food Bank of Delaware and private donations/food drives. Our shelves are growing thin as awareness of our pantry is growing in the community.

We need folks who are willing to do food drives on a regular basis, or every once in awhile or even just once. Any size big or small is welcome, every bit helps.  Or perhaps you have a gift in recruiting others to also hold food drives! The nice thing about food drives is you can make it as simple or as creative as you like.

We have developed an LCS Food Drive Kit which has information for students who are trying to earn their high school credit in volunteer hours. It also explains some of the do's and don'ts even touches on how to use social media when having a food drive.

Immediate Openings at St. Stephen's Pantry - Trolley Square

Lutheran Community Services (LCS) is currently seeking volunteers to work in our St. Stephen’s Food Pantry on N. Broom Street, near Trolley Square in Wilmington. 

Hours are 9am to 12pm and the pantry is open Monday – Friday

and 4 - 7 pm on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of the month. 

Duties include stocking, bagging, filling referral requests from clients, and helping with shipments. Schedules are flexible and you can work as many days as you like. St. Stephen’s Pantry serves approximately 25,000 individuals a year, our largest and busiest pantry. 

We are also continuing our efforts with food drives, as we are in need of food for all of our stationary pantry locations. If working at one of our pantries does not fit into your schedule, please consider organizing a food drive though your church, club, or employer. Why?

Studies show that personal food choice has a positive impact on a person’s self-esteem and can be a part of this meaningful experience.

And...

We are also continuing our Food Drive that we held through December to help get us some start up food for the choice pantry through January. We got a lot of great donations sent our way December - January and we are hoping for more blessings to continue coming in.

LCS Holiday Food Drive 2015

On your mark, get set....GO!

And...get posters out into the community!!  We are currently asking for volunteers to put posters out for our 23rd Annual 5k Walk/Run being held on September 20th. If you ever wanted to volunteer for LCS but was not sure what you could do, this is an easy and important opportunity that can make a difference and the time is now! If you already volunteer for LCS, we need your help right now!

Here is what the poster looks like. You can also take an electronic copy of this poster from this blog (Just click on photo, then right click, copy, save to directory of your choosing on your computer.) Promote the walk/run on your twitter account, Facebook, Instagram..wherever you use social media on the web and do so liberally!  If you would like a printable version of  our poster, just contact me at cframpton@lcsde.org.

We also have these posters at our office and need them taken out into the community and put into local churches, schools, store fronts, anywhere there is foot traffic. We cannot do this one alone and the more people who participate, the wider our scope of distribution.

St. Stephen's 12 Days Magi Project with Video

 Check out the St. Stephen's 12 Days of Christmas Magi Project Video featuring volunteers and staff from Lutheran Community Services and staff and church members from St. Stephen's Church. Enjoy!

St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church is partnering with other Wilmington area churches on a Magi Project.

They have rewritten the lyrics to The Twelve Days of Christmas replacing the gifts with food items.  On Christmas Eve participating churches will pass out brown paper bags and invite people to gather these food items over the 12 days of Christmas and bring them to worship on Sunday, January 5^th, the day we celebrate the Epiphany. 

Churches who have their own food pantry are welcome to keep the food. St. Stephen’s will collect other food and restock the shelves of the LCS food pantry at St. Stephen’s.

We believe this is a meaningful spiritual exercise for the season of Christmas – giving to those who hunger, spending less on ourselves and more on those in need, marking the days of the Christmas season rather than stopping with the 25^th of December, learning more about this holy day of Epiphany that is celebrated by so many Christian communities here in our midst and around the world.
